Wow! I actually had a day off...ALL DAY! I couldn't pass it up so Kimi and I took Lasi cruisin up to Haleiwa. First stop was Giovanni's (take out of course). Kicked it at Haleiwa beach and watched the turtles playing about 3 ft in front of us. We were supposed to go to Waimea but the weekend traffic is just horrible! I guess Ewa Beach traffic is not so bad after all. So we decided to head back home and make a quick stop at Dole plantation. Lasi really enjoyed the train ride and the ice cream the most. By the time we were done there we were spent.

So in memory of Shawn A. my boy Shilo wanted some "rawness" on his ride. "Haters Love Me" was the theme. Big Mahalos to the Krusha, Bolter, and Pest 3 for rockin this one with me. They did the circle island cruise the next morning.

Another paint session with the kids of Kalihi. We spent a day in discussion and came up with this work of art that incorporates culture as well as positive words that shouts change. Spy the Prime in the tree. Also, big mahalos to Cease and Dmize for coming by to help out and give their aloha for da kidz! They're also in the tree along with DM and BS(da baddess crew from da HI). The center still doesn't know about it.

Da Sandwich Shack

The "Sandwich Shack" out in Waianae. These are the pics from the first 2 sides I did. Completed this wagon in about 4 hours. The owners says his business is off the chain because passer bys were wondering about the artwork not realizing it's a lunch wagon and end up picking up some grindz. It was an interesting project. We got rained on hard to the point that a mote started forming around the wagon and some kronik lady was yelling her head off across the street around midnight. Mahaloz Danny and Mona for sticking it out with me in the rain.

Kalihi Valley Homes...or as I remember it, HOLLYWOOD! The basketball court brought back some memories of the past. Ghetto Tip #1-If playing chase master with bigger kids that can't catch you, don't tease them.

I had fun with the kids painting this one. The two little "chachos" had my back big time. They set up, painted, and did security all at the same time.After the mural was done, we headed over to the main area for some hot dogs, popcorn, and shaved ice! A huge waterslide kept the kids busy while the main tent showcased different cultural group performances. My favorite had to be the senior citizens. These guys really got the crowd moving with the cha cha slide and electric slide.

It was a day I know I won't forget. Everyone pitched in from the community and made it happen. Talk about "Live Aloha".

I love family parties at the beach. Trinytee's 1st Birthday at Maili Beach was just the break I needed from all the everyday madness that I go through day in and day out. All this food was prepared by the famz which makes dieting practically impossible.

Locking Y'all! In case you didn't know! Sure has been a while since I seen some good locking. These guys are definitely up there in my eyes. Try this: Turn down the volume of the video and play Michael Jackson's "Turn this disco out" or maybe "Working Day and Night". Brings back some good memories.

Rediscover Makiki

In case you missed it, Rep. Della Au Belatti along with Hui o Makiki and Friends of Makiki Community Learning Center http://www.makikicommunity.org/held its annual Rediscover Makiki event in the park. They had ono grindz(sorry,too busy eating,forgot to flick it), games ,keiki rides, topped off with a movie under the stars. This year was a little different. An Urban Art segment was added to the volleyball court side and yours truly was there to paint with some really fresh talent. Jason Southard, Altoe, Eukarezt, and I had a 4' x 5' canvas to do our thing. The Theme: Urban living in Makiki. My camera crapped out before I could flick Eukarezt's canvas so I'll post as soon as I find a copy(sorry man). Here's the results:

Here's the newest installation by 808 Urban's mentor/artist "Pest 3". It was blazing hot in Waialua, but brother pulled this one off in about 4 days. The other side will be painted LIVE during it's grand opening Aug.1. Aunty's Da Kine Mexi Grindz...try saying that 10 times really fast! If you're cruisin the island on that day make sure to put Waialua on your list of kaukau spots. Pest tells me the grindz is definitely a winner. I like to look at it this way-free paint+free grindz=Kanak-a-tak with the respirator still on the face...not to mention the sunburn! OUCH!

So yesterday I'm chillin at the beach enjoying the sunset with the family in Nanakuli. The bench next to us sat a group of deaf people. At first I didn't pay any attention to what they were doing. There was a moment that everyone was on their cell phones and I had no choice BUT to mind my own business and look the other way(in the direction of the deaf people). I mean I don't like eavesdropping on peoples calls and so as I was watching them and noticed something different about the way they were signing. The posture was different as well as the motion of the hands. Then it dawned on me that these guys were speaking pidgeon to each other! Is that possible? They were even signing to the dog! I wondered if their conversations went something like...."Ho cuzz da surf was unreal yestawday ba mean cuzz mean ba afta dat i wen go home grind den crash laddat from da kanak-a-tak..."
You had to see it to believe it.
